Red Canna (Pack of 3)
Red Canna (Pack of 3) Red Canna Lily Red Canna
From late spring to the end of summer, Cannas will provide colour and flare to your garden. This superbly bright Red Canna provides tall spikes with a clump of exotic flowers at the top which open in succession. Set against large, gorgeous greeny-blue foliage gives this variety a tropical feel.

Cut your Red Canna flowers as they die back and fade, as this will ensure longer flowering times. Cannas like full or partial sun and moist soil. But they don't tend to be too high maintenance.

How to plant Cannas

  • Wait until the risk of frost has passed and the soil has warmed before planting Cannas outdoors, usually March or early April. Find a sunny position with well-drained soil. Cannas thrive in full sun due to being a tropical plant. You could start your canna off indoors before moving outside after the last frosts.
  • If planting in pots, plant your Canna rhizomes horizontally 10-15cm (4-6") deep. Use a 2 to 3 litre pot or 12" in diameter and fill with multi-purpose compost. Use a slow-release fertiliser to promote strong growth.
  • If planting in the garden, plant your Canna rhizomes horizontally 10-15cm (4-6") deep. Space your rhizomes 30-60cm (1-2ft) apart.
  • See 'Care Instructions' for more information.

Care Instructions

Care:

  • For earlier flowers, plant your Cannas in pots indoors or in a greenhouse.
  • Water regularly.
  • Deadhead flowers as they fade.

Overwintering:

  • Once the first frosts have blackened the foliage, cut the plants back to the ground.
  • In frost-prone areas and colder climates, lift and store your rhizomes over winter. Replant the following spring.

Lifting and Storing over winter:

  • Cut back foliage and carefully lift the rhizomes out of the soil.
  • Allow the rhizomes to dry off naturally and then clean away any soil.
  • Make sure the tubers are completely dry before storing them into open trays or boxes.
  • Store in a dark place that is frost free.
