Scadoxus Multiflorus really has the wow factor! Also known as the Fireball Lily or Blood Lily as it has huge sphere-shaped flower heads that can grow to 15cm in diameter. Each flower head is made up of tiny star-shaped red flowers. Bees and Butterflies love Scadoxus!

Scadoxus multiflorus is a tender bulb native to tropical east and south Africa. These bulbous perennials are easy to grow provided they’re kept frost-free and relatively dry over winter, while dormant. In late spring they can be planted out into sheltered, warm borders or planted in pots a moved around freely at will.

How plant the Blood Lily

  • Plant Scadoxus bulbs ideally in the Spring for Summer flowering.
  • Grow in a sunny position or partial shade. Bringing them on in a warm greenhouse or conservatory is ideal.
  • Plant bulbs with their necks at soil level.
  • If planting in pots, plant bulbs in pots of well-drained loam based compost, such as John Innes No. 2.
  • If planting in the garden, ensure the soil is well drained and humus rich.

Postage cost to the UK (excluding N.Ireland) is £5.50.

Planting & Growing Instructions

How plant the Blood Lily

  • Plant Scadoxus bulbs ideally in the Spring for Summer flowering.
  • Grow in a sunny position or partial shade. Bringing them on in a warm greenhouse or conservatory is ideal.

Care Instructions

  • Scadoxus Multiflorus need protection over Winter. We would suggest lifting them and storing them somewhere dry or moving the pot into a shed or frost-free area. 
  • After your Scadoxus Multiflorus has finished flowering, cut the flower head off and allow the stem and foliage to die back naturally.
  • Stop watering after this and allow the bulb to lie dormant throughout the winter months.
