Miss Lucy lily

This question was asked by
S. Baker

Can you please put me on a waiting list for when you get more of the oriental double Lily Miss Lucy. It is so lovely and has no pollen stamens to harm my cats.

Good afternoon,
Unfortunately, the Miss Lucy Lily has been discontinued. We do have a very similar variety within the Roselily collection called Kendra. This is also pollen free and is beautiful with a gorgeous scent.

How to use Neem Oil effectively

This question was asked by
Saunders

I’m having difficulty in making the neem oil to disperse in the water and washing up liquid solution. It just seems to float on the surface. Any suggestions?

Ensure you use just a tea spoon of neem oil in a 1 litre bottle. You’ll need to shake really well as you spray and then dispose of the solution after each use.

Is Neem Oil safer for Bees?

This question was asked by
P. Coombes

Is Neem Oil safer for Bees? Also how should we use Neem Oil, what strength and how should a spray be prepared from the Oil.

Neem oil is practically non-toxic to birds, mammals, bees and plants.
With regards to the Neem Oil for keeping lit beetles away we recommend using a hand sprayer with 1 teaspoon of Neem Oil (5ml) plus a small amount of washing up liquid (as a surfactant) with approx. 500ml water. So 1 part Neem Oil to 100 parts water (1:100). Neem oil is practically non-toxic to birds, mammals, bees and plants.

Will lilies grow well in Spain?

This question was asked by
Linda

Will your lilies grow in Spain and are any varieties more suitable.

Good Morning,
Yes Lilies will grow fine in Spain. Just bear in mind that Lilies like to have a cold dormant phase over the winter months and not to get waterlogged, therefore I would advise planting them in pots and storing them over winter where they can be kept cold and not get waterlogged. If you’re unsure of your soil type, try the Oriental Trumpet Lilies (Tree lilies) as these like any type of well-drained soil.

How to get rid of Lily Beetle

This question was asked by
lois stanley

I love growing lilies but these became prone to lily beetle after a couple of years. What’s the best solution to get rid of lily beetle?

Being vigilant is key to keeping the lily beetles from ruining your lilies! However, we also suggest the following for preventing lily beetle from destroying your lilies:

1) Spray with Imidcloprid and sunflower oil (or Bayer Provado Ultimate Bug Killer).

2) If you do not like using insecticides then spraying with diluted fairy liquid or crushed garlic in water have been suggested. Crush a whole corm of garlic in a small pan of boiling water. Allow to cool, strain and put in a small container in the fridge. When using, dilute three parts water to one part garlic solution. Spray often, every few days, especially when it has rained. There is a garlic product available in garden centres and stores, but this is a much cheaper alternative.

3) More recently, a customer has tried planting their lily bulbs alongside a garlic and this has been quite successful in keeping the lily beetles away.

4) Alternatively, we have been advising our customers to spray their lilies with NEEM oil to eradicate the lily beetle! We recommend using a hand sprayer with 1 teaspoon of Neem Oil (5ml) plus a small amount of washing up liquid (as a surfactant) with approx. 500ml water. So 1 part Neem Oil to 100 parts water (1:100).

Do tree lilies need staking?

This question was asked by
B. Hall

Do tree lilies need any kind of support?

‘Tree Lilies’ have very strong/sturdy stems to support the large flower heads they produce. Therefore, in most gardens Tree lilies will never need staking, however, if your garden is very exposed and can be at risk of high winds, they may need some form of support.
