Congratulations on your success at Chelsea. My wife and I visited on Tuesday and your display was stunning and our favourite. The award was well deserved.

So lovely of you to email us with your kind words! We were so happy to receive the Presidents Award and to hear from our lovely customers is just wonderful! Thank you for taking the time to email us!

Allium colours

This question was asked by
L. CATCHPOLE

Hi. I’m interested in buying your alliums. However I’m confused by colours as whenever I find photos on the internet they always look different even for the same species/type. I’m interested in Gladiator or Ambassador. Could you point me in the direction of accurate photos of their colours? Thanks!

Oh goodness, good question! It is very to hard to tell from the different variants of cameras used to photograph the alliums and the change of colour projection from computer screens to smart devices. Both are equally nice alliums if that helps. I have Allium Globemaster in my garden and they are just so majestic and a vibrant pinky/purple… like the image of Loraine Hart with the huge Globemaster on our website. See attached.

Which compost do I plant different lilies in?

This question was asked by
Diane Lynott

I purchased some of your Lillie’s yesterday at the Malvern show. Bulbs. I cannot remember which were Ericasious. If I put all of them into Ericasious soil will this damage those that are not?

Hello there,

If they are Oriental lilies or even a crossbreed with an Oriental Lily then planting them in an Ericaceous soil is fine. If they are Asiatic Lilies (Or a mixture of both), then John Innes No.2 mixed with a good quality multi-purpose compost will be fine for all. Ensure they have good drainage.

Hello, I was actually looking for Mardagon Lillies to give to my sister who lives in Birtsmorton Court for her birthday but see that you are all sold out. Can you tell me when is the best time to order the bulbs and is it possible to actually buy the lillies in flower? Many thanks

Hello there,

You can order your martagon lilies now but they are not dispatched unit the Autumn which is the best time for planting,
Best wishes

Will lily bulbs grow on a north facing balcony?

This question was asked by
Mrs D Leadley

Will lily bulbs grow on a north facing balcony? I am interrested in the Roselilies.

As long as they get some Sunshine through out the day – at least a few hours and they are planted in a well-drained soil, then they will be absolutely fine.

Roselilies are a gorgeous variety. They have no stamen but they still have a lovely fragrance.

Eremurus identification

This question was asked by
J. Kiersey

I have just bought bulbs at Bloom and I have forgotten the name of what looks like an octopus, can you remind me please? Also Jonathan is a very helpful chap.

This sounds like Eremurus to me. I have attached some of the varieties we have online for you:

Eremurus Bungei (harts1124)

Eremurus Cleopatra (harts1125)

Eremurus Robustus (harts1126)

I will be sure to pass on your comments to Jonathan. Thanks ever so much.

Best wishes

montego bay

This question was asked by
D. Bourne

I bought some lilies from you about three years ago, one of which was called montego bay this appears to be discontinued.
Can you give me the name of a similar colour lily?

Good afternoon,
The closest in colours to Montego Bay would be:

Avalon Sunset (SKU17947)

Nymph (harts1027)

Shocking (harts1026)
