Galanthus 'Ikariae', a distinctive species of Snowdrop, originates from the Greek islands, where it thrives in shaded, mountainous regions. This unique variety is named after Icarus, the figure from Greek mythology, in reference to the elegant wing-shaped markings found on its inner petals. Unlike other Snowdrops, Galanthus Ikariae is notable for its lush, broad, deep-green leaves, which provide a striking contrast to its pure white, nodding flowers.

This hardy and resilient Snowdrop is an excellent addition to the garden during the colder months, bringing life and beauty to winter landscapes. It prefers full to partial shade, making it ideal for planting under trees, in woodland gardens, or along shaded pathways. Galanthus Ikariae thrives in moist, well-drained soil, where it can gradually spread and naturalise, forming lovely clusters over time.

As one of the more robust Snowdrop species, it is low-maintenance and capable of withstanding harsher winter conditions. How to plant Galanthus Ikariae

• Find a location with well-drained, moist soil
• Snowdrops grow well in full Sun or partially-shaded areas. 
• If planting in the garden, plant the bulbs 6-8cm below the soil surface.
• If planting in Pots, find a container and fill it with good-quality, well-drained soil. Ensure there is adequate draining holes.
• Plant in the Autumn, September through November.
• After planting, water well, gently soaking the soil to settle it around the bulbs.
• Snowdrops will flower February through to March.
