Hymenocallis Festalis 'Sulphur Queen' (Pack of 3 Bulbs) Hymenocallis Festalis

Hymenocallis Festalis 'Sulphur Queen' - Yellow, is also known as the Peruvian Daffodil. An exotic look flower to brighten up your garden at the beginning of the Summer months, usually starts to show signs of growth in late Spring and into full bloom by June. Hymenocallis Festalis will do well in borders or a medium-sized pot. It will need a well-drained soil, perhaps using John Innes No.2 with added grit for best results.

How to Plant your Hymenocallis

  • Plant into pots between March and May using multipurpose compost and grow them on indoors or in a warm greenhouse.
  • Once the risk of frost has passed, they can be transplanted outside from May onwards.
  • Alternatively, you can plant them straight outside in May.

Planting in Pots

  • Plant your Hymenocallis Festalis bulbs with their neck and shoulders above soil level.
  • Space the bulbs around 10-15cm apart.
  • Plant 1 bulb to 6" pot or 3 bulbs to a 12" pot.
  • Plant in a good-quality multipurpose compost.
  • Place in a sunny position.
  • Water regularly. Allow the soil to become dry between watering.

Planting in Outside

  • Find a sheltered position in full sun with free-draining soil, preferably sandy soil.
  • Plant your Hymenocallis Festalis bulbs with their neck and shoulders above soil level.
  • Space the bulbs around 10-15cm apart.
  • Water regularly. Allow the soil to become dry between watering.

Care Instructions

How to care for your Hymenocallis

  • If planting in the garden, you may need to lift and store your bulbs over the colder months to protect from frost.
  • Lift your bulbs (once the stem and foliage has died back naturally) and store in a cool, dry place like a greenhouse or garage.
  • Place bulbs in a paper bag or cardboard box for protection. The bulbs should be cleaned of any soil (you can brush off any excess soil).
  • If planting in pots, simply bring under cover until the risk of frost has passed and move back outside in the spring months.
  • Don't let the bulbs sit in wet soil whilst dormant.
