Liatris Spicata (Pack of 10 Bulbs) Liatris Spicata Pink Liatris

Liatris spicata (Blazing Star) - Pack of 10 Bulbs

Liatris Spicata, commonly known as Blazing Star or Gayfeather, is a low-maintenance, summer-blooming perennial that brings both beauty and biodiversity to your garden. With its grassy, green foliage and striking, fuzzy bottle-brush flower spikes, Liatris adds bold texture and vertical interest wherever it's planted.

This variety produces vibrant purple plumes of tiny florets that bloom from top to bottom, creating a unique and eye-catching effect. Blooming year after year, these nectar-rich flowers are irresistible to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making them a must-have for wildlife-friendly gardening.

Liatris thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, but it also adapts well to a range of conditions, including meadows, wildflower plantings, mixed borders, and grassy areas. While they’re at home in naturalistic settings, they also make an impressive display in pots or containers on a sunny patio, adding height and vibrant colour to your outdoor space.

This pack of 10 bulbs offers an easy and rewarding way to introduce colour, texture, and life to your summer garden. With strong vertical lines and a long flowering period, Liatris spicata is a garden essential that will come back better each season.

Planting Liatris in the Garden

  • Plant Liatris Spicata in the spring for summer flowering.
  • Make sure the risk of frost has passed before planting outdoors.
  • Position your Liatris Spicata bulbs in a full to partially sunny aspect.
  • Plant at a depth of 15cm (6").
  • Space your bulbs 5-10cm (2-4") apart.
  • The small, flattened area is the top of the corm. The claw-like part should point downwards.
  • Make sure your soil is well-drained as Liatris like moisture but not soggy roots.

Planting Liatris in Pots/Containers

  • Liatris are not commonly grown in containers, but it is certainly possible to do so.
  • If planting in pots, plant your Liatris at a depth of 15cm (6")
  • Plant 3-5 corms to a 10-12" pot/container.
  • Ensure the pot has adequate drainage holes.

Care Instructions

Caring for your Liatris Spicata

  • In Autumn, remove dead foliage and faded flowers.
  • Lift and divide where necessary in Spring.
  • You may need to mark your planting area of Liatris Spicata as once the flowers have died back and the foliage removed, there is no trace of them. This will avoid damaging them when you prepare your Spring beds.
