Mirabilis Jalapa are the late arrivals to the party - hence their nickname the 4 O'Clocks as they tend to flower later in the day. These bushy flowering perennials are tuberous-rooted plants that produce many different coloured flowers that will reach a height of 100cm, (2-3ft) and will have a similar spread.
Mirabilis Jalapa can be expected to bloom from mid-summer all the way through until the first frosts and carry a sweet scent which is often likened to the fragrnace of Narcissus.
Mulch over your '4 O'Clock Flowers' in winter but these delights are very low maintenance overall.

How to plant your Mirabilis Jalapa
- Find a location with well-drained soil.
- Mirabilis Jalapa like to be planted in full sun or partially-shaded areas.
- If planting in the garden, plant the bulbs 4-5cm below the soil surface.
- If planting in Pots, find a container and fill it with good-quality, well-drained multi-purpose potting compost. Ensure there is adequate draining holes.
- After planting, water the Mirabilis well, gently soaking the soil to settle it around the bulbs.
- Mirabilis Jalapa will flower mid-summer.

- Feed with a general-purpose fertiliser after planting and again once a month during active growth.
- Water as needed during active growth periods.
- After flowering has finished for the season leave the foliage in place; don't cut it off. The leaves will gather sunlight, create food through photosynthesis and strengthen the bulbs for the future.
