Polianthes Tuberosa Polianthes Tuberosa

Polianthes Tuberosa is great for bringing scent and beauty to your garden pots or borders. This exquisite flower produces a spike of multiple creamy flowers which towers above its grassy foliage and carries a beautiful scent which makes them ideal for cut flowers or displayed in your patio pots.

As this variety is quite partial to warmer climates, we suggest starting your Tuberosas off indoors as they need plenty of warmth to come out of dormancy. Either situate them in a warm greenhouse, conservatory or placed in a sunny position on a windowsill. This will encourage them to flower and can then be transferred outside from May onwards. Typically, you will see signs of growth come mid-summer.

Harts Hint

"We advise planting one Polianthes Tuberosa into a 10-12cm diameter pot or three tubers into a larger 15-18cm pot."

How to plant Polianthes Tuberosa

  • Plant your Polianthes tubers in the spring and grow-on in a warm, frost-free condition before planting outside after the risk of frost has passed.
  • We suggest starting them off indoors in a warm greenhouse, conservatory or placed in a sunny position on a windowsill.
  • Use a good-quality, multipurpose compost.
  • Transplant outside in May to borders or containers in full sun.
  • If transplanting outside, ensure soil is free draining.
