How to Care for Peonies

Only water your peonies if they experience a really dry spell. They do not need much watering.

For larger flower heads, de-bud the side shoots in April/May time with a sharp knife. However, if you prefer more flower heads than larger flower heads, then leave them be.
- Resist cutting the flowers the first couple of years to encourage better growth.
- Once everything has died back for the season, cut back and remove all old foliage to ground level to reduce the risk of infection from peony wilt disease.
- Peonies are fully hardy so don't need any winter protection.
