Agapanthus 'Dr Brouwer' is a strikingly dark stemmed agapanthus with lilac flowers that appear in late summer. Native to South Africa, agapanthus are also known as the African Lily and happy to be planted in a sunny spot in your borders or pots.

How to plant Agapanthus

  • Plant your agapanthus roots in the spring.
  • Start off in a frost free area before transplanting after the risk of frosts have passed. Or plant straight outsite after the last frosts have finished.
  • Planting in the garden, ensure you have well drained soil - add grit to help with drainage.
  • Planting in pots, use a good-quality, multipurpose compost.
  • Postion your agapanthus in full sun / partial shade. 
  • Space the roots out and plant 5-10cm (2-4") deep.
  • Space the roots 15-20cm (6-8") apart.
  • Keep hydrated during active growth.

Additional Information

  • It may take two or three years for agapanthus plants to establish before flowering really takes off, but after this they will grow in to long-flowering clumps.
  • If your agapanthus clumps become too big, they can be lifted and split every four to five years.
  • You may need to protect your agapanthus against slugs and snails.

Summer Flowering Bulbs are dispatched from the end of February to June.
All orders should be dispatched within 3-5 working days during this time.
Postage cost to the UK (excluding N.Ireland) is £4.99.
Orders over £50 qualify for FREE delivery.

When your order is due for dispatch, you will receive a tracking email from us to track your parcel with the Royal Mail or Caribou.
Your parcel will be sent on a 48 hour tracked service.

Returns and Refunds

You have the right to cancel your order at any time before it is dispatched.
All returns must be returned at your cost within 7 days of receipt.
Payment for the returned goods will be refunded within 7 days of the goods being received by us, less the postage charges.

Care Instructions

How to care for Agapanthus

  • Feed with a high potassium fertiliser.
  • Overwinter with a dry mulch. If you are prone to a wet and cold climate, we recommend growing these in pots so that you can move your pots under shelter and protect them from frosts during the winter. 
  • You may need to protect your agapanthus against slugs and snails.
