  • Use a soil based compost such as John Innes No3.
  • Peonies are fine planted in a pot for a few years but they may out grow their pot due to their large root system.

Care Instructions

How to Care for Peonies

  • Only water your peonies if they experience a really dry spell. They do not need much watering.
  • For larger flower heads, de-bud the side shoots in April/May time with a sharp knife. However, if you prefer more flower heads than larger flower heads, then leave them be.
  • Resist cutting the flowers the first couple of years to encourage better growth.
  • Once everything has died back for the season, cut back and remove all old foliage to ground level to reduce the risk of infection from peony wilt disease.
  • Peonies are fully hardy so don't need any winter protection.
