Hello, I would like to grow a lily in my garden border. The soil is neutral to alkaline can you recommend a lily please. Or will I only be able to grow one in a pot with ericaceous compost?

Pots are great if you don’t know your soil or if in fact, in your case, you want to plant Oriental Lilies (Ericaceous soil) as your garden would prefer Asiatic Lilies as it is more an Alkaline soil. However, you can also plant any hybrid lilies like tree-lilies (also known as Oriental Trumpets) as these are happy in any soil as long as its well-drained.
So for your garden, I would advise planting any Asiatic lily or and Oriental Trumpet Lily.
