Calla Lily planting and care advice

Hi

We purchased 2 lots of 3 rhizomes from you at Hampton Court Flower Show in early July with the intention of planting them in pots on our sunny patio. However, when I looked up when they should be planted, it clearly states they should be planted in the Spring, which has obviously long gone.

Please can you tell me whether I should go ahead and plant them now, or should I store them in a cool, dark place and plant them next Spring?

I intend to use John Innes No. 3 but should I mix this with something else?

I look forward to hearing.

Miranda

Yes plant them now and they will flower this year still – just a little a later as they’ve been held back in a Coldstore.

They will then revert back to their usual flowering cycle next year.

Plant in a loam-based compost such as John Innes No. 2 or you can mix it with a good-quality multi-purpose compost if you would like. Either is fine. Ensure they have adequate drainage and placed in a very warm position to get them activated.
