How to plant Gypsophila
Plant your bare root Gypsophila outside during Spring.
Soak the roots in water for 30mins before planting. Plant in borders or pots/containers.
Find a Full Sun/Partially Shaded position.
Spread the roots out and plant 10-15cm deep and about 25-30cm apart.
Plant with the shoots facing upwards.
Water well after planting and water regularly during growth period.

Lily identification

This question was asked by
Margaret Brown

My son bought lily bulbs from you at Chelsea about 5/6 years ago. They are a perfect lemon yellow with a wonderful perfume and grow about 6 feet tall. I have several photos to help but cannot attach them here. I would like to purchase more of these bulbs when life gets back to normal so any help with ID would be great. Many thanks.

HI Margaret

We are till sending our bulbs out online if you wish to order some. Do you think it might be Manissa or Conca D’or?

Lily ‘Manissa’ (Pack of 5 Large Bulbs) (harts10252)

Zantedeschia Dubai Nights

This question was asked by
Pauline

Hi, I’d like to plant these in a large pot, much like the photos. How can I do that when they need to be planted just under the compost surface and 30cm apart? My planter has a 30cm diameter.
Any advice gratefully received. 🙂
Pauline

Planting Callas in pots
We advise planting one rhizome to an 8″ pot or 3 to a 16″ pot or there abouts.

This question was asked by

If I order lily bulbs from you now will they flower this summer?

Yes, if you plant your lilies now, they will be in flower in 8 to 12 weeks time. They will then revert back to their usual flowering period next year.

Hi, I am new to bulbs. My order has been for these and the Nerines. I am interested in planting in containers but they suggest planning 12 inches apart. How big a container would I need for all 3 or would you recommend planting each one in a 9 inch pot. Any advice gratefully received. Thank you

It depends how you want your display to look, you can plant them 30cm apart in the garden but you can also plant them closer together for more a grouped display. We have a video here on how to plant them in pots if you want to have a look:

I have about 20 pots lillies ranging from 6 to 50 bulbs per pot and every year the same pot the leaves go brown but have great flowers and all plants have the same treatment any ideas thank you. Derek

Try repotting your lilies with fresh compost and give your lilies a pot-ash feed like Tomarite.

Can I enjoy my lilies as cut flowers?

This question was asked by
Justine

Thank you for my order – the lilies are growing fast! If I cut them to enjoy indoors, does this make the bulb weaker next year as it has not been allowed to die back naturally?

Yes unfortunately if you cut your lilies for cut flower in doors, it can make the bulbs weaker and they won’t flower as well the following year.
