I have grown some bare root gypsophlia in pots with the intention of planting in the garden. They are growing well and are about 6 inches high. Should I transplant them into the garden yet. I don’t want to do them any damage!

• Harden them off first if they’ve been in a sheltered or indoor spot—gradually expose them to outdoor conditions over 7–10 days.

• Choose a sunny, well-drained spot in the garden—gypsophila hates soggy soil.

• Plant carefully at the same depth they were growing in the pot, and firm the soil around the base.

• Water in well, but avoid waterlogging.

They should establish quickly and reward you with those airy, delicate blooms later in the season.
