Tulips

This question was asked by
Teresa Threadgall

I would like to purchase specific colours only in the traditionally shaped tulips – light pink, orange and deep purple. Can you deliver bulbs in these colours?
I bought bulbs from you at the Harrogate Flower Show and they were excellent.

Hello! I bought these pineapple lily bulbs from you but I can’t get hold of any ericaceous compost. What should I do?
Thanks

HI there,
A good quality multipurpose compost will be fine for your eucomis. Ensure it has plenty of drainage.

Lily feed

This question was asked by
J. Franklin

What is the best feed for lilies – I’ve got tomato feed, seaweed extract and sulphate of potash, or is there anything better.
Thanks

A pot-ash feed is fine for lilies. We offer a slow-realease fertiliser on our website if that’s any help. This will be beneficial for lilies and other plants/flowers.

Eucomis

This question was asked by
Mike

Hi
Just a basic question. Purchased 6 eucomis bulbs and they are now ready to go into my border. To get the best from them do you recommend to plant in a straight line or group them together? Hope that makes sense. Thanks

HI Mike

I would plant Eucomis bulbs in 3’s in a triangle formation to get the best display.

Alliums

This question was asked by
Annette

Hi I saw a supplier of alliums at the Hampton Court Flower show. I picked up a guide that showed allium heights and flowering times etc which was really useful. Do you have such a guide so that I can choose those that I want?
Kind regards
Annette

Hi Annette

All heights and flowering times are on our website. We will soon have a new website in the next month or so and on there you will be able to search by height and flowering period.

Information

This question was asked by
Helga Olejnik

I’m interested in tree lilies collection of 12 for about 15 Pound.
1. When could i get them here in Germany?
2. Can I still plant them now, and have blossoms this summer?
How much is the shipping?
Kind regards
Helga Olejnik

HI Helga

Yes you can still plant the lilies now and they will flower in about 8-12 weeks and revert back to their normal flowering period next year. If you order today (thurs), they will be dispatched in tomorrow (friday). Currently, I am uncertain of delivery times to German due to Covid-19 but I believe everything is slowly getting back to normal and shouldn’t take too long to be delivered.

What to do after lily beetle

This question was asked by

My lilies have had bad infestation of lily beetle, dealt with. Now plants have very few leaves, although flower spikes are forming. Should I FEED them with something to strengthen the bulbs? am now very vigilant about lily beetle! Thank you

Hi Petra

Yes you can feed your lilies with some Tomarite and you could try making up a garlic solution to keep the lily beetles as bay.

Lilies

This question was asked by
Bob F

I bought a selection of lilies for my daughter in 1979 after seeing your stand at Chelsea. The tubs have moved house with her to Teesside and then to Aberdeen and have just arrived ( divided and replanted) in Walton-on-Thames. Looking wonderful! Some more are en route to me. Thank you! Bob Finch.

Thank you Bob for your lovely email.

Begonia

This question was asked by
Geoff Cross

How to prepare Begonias for storage over winter. Do you remove all the stems so the that the corm is concave?

Once the Begonia flowering season has finished, the stems and foliage will turn yellow and die back naturally.
Reduce watering to prevent rotting.
Once all the stems have fallen off naturally, dig out the tubers, clean and dry them before storing them away in peat or sand in a dry, frost-free area like a garage or shed.
Replant the following February.
