How deep to plant Fritillaria Imperialis Aurora

This question was asked by

How deep should I plant these bulbs? Thanks

HI there,

Plant your fritillaria bulbs quite deep with 6-8″ of soil above them.
It is best to plant the Crown Imperial bulb on its side, this prevents water collecting at the top of the bulb and causing it to rot.

You can find more helpful planting information here:

Can you tell me why the foliage is going yellow?

Good afternoon,

When your Fritillaria Imperialis’ (Crown Imperial) foliage turns yellow, is when the plant stocks up on nutrients and energy for the next blooming cycle.

Hi there, I have just enjoyed some Fritillaria imperialis and would like to grow more next year. When is the best time to buy and plant the bulbs and how many varieties are there? I suspect not nearly enough. Many thanks Jan Light

Our Fritillaria Imperialis Bulbs will be available to order from next month and they will be dispatched in the Autumn (Sept) ready for planting.

We have a few different varieties of Fritillaria imperials:

Fritillaria Imperialis Maxima Lutea (Pack of 3 Bulbs) (harts1120)

Fritillaria Imperialis Rubra Maxima (Pack of 3 Bulbs) (harts1119)

Fritillaria Imperialis Aurora (Pack of 3 Bulbs) (harts1129)
