Do lilies come back each year?

Hello,
I’ve had some of the above in pots for a few years but recently the growth is very weak and the flowering poor so could it be they are past there best? I overwinter them in an unheated polytunnel and have fed then in the growing season but they are still looking a bit pathetic so any advice please. As an aside we bought some bulbs from you at Tatton last year and they are emerging again very strong so looking forward to them blooming again. many thanks Roger.

To keep your lilies healthy and thriving long-term, we recommend lifting and dividing your lily bulbs every 3–4 years. This helps to:

  • Prevent overcrowding
  • Refresh the soil around them
  • Encourage better flowering

Simply lift the bulbs in autumn after the foliage has died back, gently separate any clumps, and replant them for even more gorgeous blooms next season!

That said, they may just need replacing now depending on how long you have had them.

Fragrant Lilies

I am new to growing lilies and would like especially fragrant ones, for planters on my patio. Also – preferably not too tall although that is not too important – the scent is. I have in mind regale, sorbonne, casablanca, that sort of thing. I could do with some advice.

Hi Robert

As a general rule of thumb, the whiter the lily the more fragrant is it. This is because it attracts wildlife by its scent as opposed to its colour. Those varieties you mention are lovely, however Regale will get a bit taller over time. I would advise looking at the Oriental Lilies and Roselilies for scent and for lilies that are not too tall.

stock of Garden Affair

Hi there
I have a beautiful border of white roses and Garden Affair lillies, and wanted to add to the lillies this year. It looks like you are out of stock. Please can you let me know if/ when you expect to get more? Or do you have a lilly that is ver, very similar that I could mix in?

Unfortunately, we will not be having more stock of Garden Affair available this year.

Have you seen Lilium Regale, this is our most popular lily and will look lovely against the white roses:

Lily planting in a pot…

Good Morning. I have two pots, 48 Cm tall and 40 Cm diameter at the top, how many lily regale bulbs can I comfortably plant in each one?
Advice gratefully received. Thank you.

It does all depend on the type of arrangement you would like for your pots. I would suggest planting 3 to 5 bulbs in pot that big. Ideally I’d plant about 3 to give them the space they deserve as Regale lilies are such a stunning variety with large flower heads.

Can you advise as soon as possible when you will have Regale Lillies in stock?
I am hoping to purchase qty 20.
Can you also advise on P&P charges to Southampton area.
