I’m wondering when is the best time to lift lillie bulbs and seperate them? Also are you still selling lillie bulbs for despatch now?
We advise lifting and separating your lily bulbs after 3 years from planting.
We are taking orders for lily bulbs now but they will be dispatched in the Spring next year.

Fire bolt caused a stir at Stithians one day show yesterday.My gorgeous husband had a first,Best Exhibit and a beautiful silver Presidents cup.We were amazed at how many people were taking photos,asking about it and admiring it .I don’t know how many times I mentioned Harts but we were so proud .A big thank you for our beautiful lily bulbs.Have already ordered for next year .Regards Jackie Angove

We bought five ‘Samantha’ bulbs from you this week at Hampton Court. We in tend growing them in a large pot. Do we plant them straight away or store them until the autumn? If we store them how should they be kept?

Please plant your lilies straight away as they will still flower this year (10-12 weeks time) and then they will revert back to their usual flowering cycle next year, which should be slightly earlier (end of July/Beginning August).

I have pollen free lilies and need to repot them.
Not sure about:-
1) I have quite “extra” small, thin, sparse sort of shoots in many of the pots (not all this years!), and I don’t know if I should pull them out and thow away, or are these viable to repot? They are very spindly.
2) What is the best time of year to do this?
Once all the lilies have died back and the stems become hollow and removable then you can repot them. You can break off the baby bulblets and replant these also (these are the spindly stems). They will get stronger each year and eventually they should flower.

I am trying to choose a white oriental lily that would have the most blooms. I wonder if you could recommend the right variety?
The Tree lilies (Oriental Trumpet lilies) will produce the height with the maximum amount of buds per stem. I would recommend Villa Blanca or Zambesi. These will produce large flower heads with a gorgeous fragrance.

Multicoloured ‘Tree-like’ Lily Bulb Collection – Do the bulbs on these lilies stay in the ground over winter or do they need lifting?
Yes lilies actually like a cold-dormant phase and need to be left where they over winter. If you are planting your lilies in a pot, just ensure there’s plenty of drainage as Lilies don’t like to get water logged, you can even tip your pot on its side.

When you describe Lilies as HARDY does it mean once planted the bulb does not require lifting in winter ?
That’s correct. Lilies actually like a cold dormant phase. Just ensure they don’t get waterlogged over the winter months.

I notice you have had luck with neem oil!! Could you tell me what is the best dilution ratio for this, and what to use,

Yes we have had some good results from diluted Neem Oil! We recommend using a hand sprayer with 1 teaspoon of Neem Oil (5ml) plus a small amount of washing up liquid (as a surfactant) with approx. 500ml water. So 1 part Neem Oil to 100 parts water (1:100).

Can I grow lilies in a large, airy greenhouse. I have a soil bed and large tubs.
Yes growing your lily bulbs in your greenhouse will be absolutely fine. We get great results from growing our lilies under glass. We use all our lilies to exhibit at the RHS Flower shows including the prestigious RHS Chelsea Flower Show. We just advise on checking which soil you will need for the lily bulb varieties you have. The tree-like lilies (oriental trumpets) are happy in any soil.
