lily bulbs in flower for September

This question was asked by
Barry S

Looking for any lily bulbs you sell that flower in September?

Thanks
Barry

Hi Barry

I would advise buying lilies later in the year. We stop selling them in May and usually they take 10-12 weeks to flower so if you were to keep them in the fridge and plant them in June, you will find you should have them in flower in Sept.

Alternatively, you could try planting Nerines (the Guernsey lily) as these flower later into the Autumn.

Lily Beetle Prevention Concentrate

This question was asked by
Ian S

Hi, I see this doesn’t actually kill the lily beetles but what about the eggs and grubs? Does it kill these? Thanks, Ian

Hi Ian

The Lily Beetle Concentrate Spray makes the lily foliage taste bitter and therefore deters the beetles and larvae from eating it.

You have to keep spraying the lilies for the spray to be effective especially after rainfall. Wipe off any grubs and dispose of them if you see them.

I have received my order for giant lily bulbs – gosh what a size !
I have some pots with a 13 inch diameter, how many bulbs would you suggest for this size of container?

Large tree lilies

I would advise planting 3 large lily bulbs in a 13″ pot.

Lily bulb compost

This question was asked by
Justine S

Hello, I have bought the following lilies from you. Lily Sunny Martinique and Roselily Anouska. when I looked at buying John Innes Number 3 it stated it was for mature plants. Is this the correct compost for the above lilies?

Best wishes, Justine.

Hi Justine
Yes John Innes No 3 is recommended for most lilies. If it appears too dense add some horticultural grit and peat-free multi-purpose compost or leaf mould to improve drainage.

Happy Customer

Top quality good grade lily bulbs once again, many thanks.
Lily bulbs purchased from you in previous years have flowered stunningly well, with many good sized flowers to each stem. Also performing as well, if not better in the following year. (All container grown – some divided depending on variety / number of new bulbs produced).
Best regards,
Harry Howard

Thank you Harry for your very kind email and for taking the time to write it. It’s so nice to hear from our happy customers.
