Lily bulb compost

This question was asked by
Justine S

Hello, I have bought the following lilies from you. Lily Sunny Martinique and Roselily Anouska. when I looked at buying John Innes Number 3 it stated it was for mature plants. Is this the correct compost for the above lilies?

Best wishes, Justine.

Hi Justine
Yes John Innes No 3 is recommended for most lilies. If it appears too dense add some horticultural grit and peat-free multi-purpose compost or leaf mould to improve drainage.

Fragrant Lilies

Is it safe to assume that all your oriental lilies smell wonderful? Sorry if that sounds a weird question but for me fragrance is the most important part of a lily!
Thanks

Hi there,
Yes all Oriental varieties are highly scented, the whiter they are, the stronger the perfume as they attract the wildlife by their scent more than their colour. Our Roselilies are highly scented too even though they don’t produce the stamen.

I am keen to purchase Roselily Annika but it would appear that it is not available to purchase individually.
Can you confirm that it is to be included in the collection?
Many thanks

Hi there,

I am afraid not, the collection will contain a mixture of the roselilies we have in stock. if there is a particular variety you would like to include, please leave a note in the comments box and we will try our best to add it for you if it is in stock.

If you like Annika, have you seen Leona? That is very similar.

I have linked it below for you to have a look at.

What not to plant with lilies

This question was asked by
D. Mcquire

Are there any other summer flowering bulbs you wouldn’t recommend planting together with Lilies?

Not really. Most summer flowering plants can be planted alongside lilies. Just bear in mind lilies like a more prominent sunny area where as some bulbs would rather a more shaded aspect like martagons and cyclamen. It’s always worth thinking about staggering and lengthening the flowering period of your garden so you have more colour for longer.

For lilies, base your planting on the following flowering times:
We advise the following flowering times for each category of lilies:

End of June/Beginning of July : Asiatics
Asiatic Lily Bulb Collection (Pack of 12 Bulbs) (harts1154)

Beginning of July/End of July : Oriental trumpets (tree lilies)
‘Tree like’ Lily Bulb Collection (Pack of 12 Bulbs) (harts1152)

End of July/Beginning of August : Orientals and Roselilies

Can you tell me if these bulbs are individually packaged please as I would like to plant them separately into containers.
Many thanks,
Cynthia Taitt

Hello there,
The Collections are not packaged individually as they are sold at a discounted price. If you would for them kept separately, you can mention this on your order in the comments section. Do let me know if you have already ordered (and quote your order number) and if it hasn’t already left us, I can make a note for the nursery team to do this for you.

Many thanks

Buying and Planting likes in May/June/July

This question was asked by
Manick

Is it possible to still order double lilies for planting now? If so when would they likely flower?

You can order your lilies from us now but they will be dispatched in February next year as we are away from the nursery a lot now exhibiting at all the flower shows across the UK. However, we will still be selling our lily bulbs at the shows up until July this year. Once purchased at the shows and planted immediately, they will take 12 weeks to flower.
